Is losing the weight gained during pregnancy important?

If weight gain is more than the recommended amount (25 to 45 pounds) during pregnancy, you may have a harder time losing it all after giving birth. Losing the weight gained during pregnancy is important because not doing so increases the likelihood of becoming overweight or obese later in life.(1, 2)    If a year goes by and you haven’t lost all of the weight gained during pregnancy, you may be more likely to keep the weight permanently, according to the WebMD website.(3)

As a new mom, when can I start a weight reduction diet?

Before beginning a weight loss program after childbirth, it’s important to get your physician’s approval. It is generally recommended that breastfeeding women wait for 6-8 weeks before attempting active weight loss, as your body needs time to recover from childbirth and establish a good milk supply. If you are not nursing, The University of Rochester Medical Center advises all new mothers to wait at least 6 weeks after delivery to begin a weight reduction diet.

During this initial postnatal period before you start the MommySlim® Weight Management Program, MommySlim® Shakes can provide you with excellent postnatal nutrition, and are easy to incorporate into virtually any well-balanced diet to help your body adjust to its recent changes. Each MommySlim® meal replacement shake is specially designed to help you boost energy, ensure you receive adequate protein, DHA omega-3, and postnatal vitamin and mineral intake. Good postnatal nutrition provided by MommySlim® Shakes can help you recover from the stresses of childbirth and the effort of caring for a new baby.

The MommySlim Program is based on Meal Replacement

MommySlim Meals + WonderSlim Meals = Perfect Portion-Control

MommySlim Program

The MommySlim Program makes it easy to portion-control for weight loss.

Each day, you’ll drink 3 MommySlim® Meal Replacement Shakes, and you’ll also enjoy 1 to 4 servings (depending on the meal plan you select) of delicious WonderSlim® Meal Supplements. These include high-protein breakfast items, lite entrees, soups, gourmet bars, snacks and desserts.

MommySlim® Meal Replacements and WonderSlim® Meal Supplements are perfectly portioned and help achieve consistent weight loss results by providing ideal protein levels and a reduced intake of calories, carbs and fats. On the MommySlim® Plan, you eat every 2-3 hours, so you'll never feel hungry or craving for more!

Plus, some healthy servings of Grocery Foods, and a Healthy Dinner

You'll also enjoy a select amount of healthy "grocery store foods" every day – some vegetable, fruit, dairy, starch and fat servings. You’ll also eat a daily healthy meal for dinner. We provide you with a "Shopping List Guide" to make this really easy for you. Incorporating daily servings of “grocery store foods” (including lean protein, vegetables, fruits, starch, etc) helps you practice healthy shopping, portion-control and cooking habits that are essential to keeping the weight gained during pregnancy off for life. Furthermore, enjoying the daily healthy lean & green meal allows you to continue to enjoy social eating with friends and family.

MommySlim Meal Plans for Nursing Moms

The MommySlim Program provides 1800-2200 calorie plans designed especially for nursing mothers

MommSlim for Nursing Mothers

The Institute of Medicine, the medical governing body that sets the DRI's (Dietary Reference Intakes), has evaluated the effects of dieting while nursing. Their conclusions, for the women studied, were that caloric levels greater than 1,800 per day and a gradual weight loss of one pound per week, did not compromise milk production. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) a weight loss of 1 pound a week while breastfeeding is safe and does not negatively affect infant growth. (4,5)

The MommySlim® Weight Management Program provides meal plans with 1800-2200 calories per day, that are designed specifically for breastfeeding mothers. Our meal plans for nursing mothers will help get your cravings under control, provide you and your baby with proper nutrition, and help you relearn how to eat for one versus eating for two - all while you gradually achieve your weight loss goal. We recommend starting at 2000 calories per day, and adjusting the calorie level up or down depending on the amount of weight loss after the first one to two weeks. Remember, nursing mothers should not consume less than 1800 calories and weight loss should not be greater than 1 pound per week.

Nursing Meal Plans:

It's important to remember that every mother and her baby are different and have unique needs - that's why it's important to consult with your physician, OBGYN and/or baby's pediatrician before beginning this or any other weight management program.

MommySlim Meal Plans for Non-Nursing Moms

The MommySlim Program provides 1200-1500 calorie plans designed especially for non-nursing mothers

MommSlim for Non-Nursing Mothers

If you bottle-feed your baby formula, your caloric needs basically return to your pre-pregnancy levels, however you don't want to start too low. Remember, your body still needs to recover and you need to have enough energy to meet the demands of your new lifestyle. We recommend starting your MommySlim® meal plan at the 1500 calorie level, as you balance your weight loss progress and your energy level. You may adjust to the 1200 calorie level, making sure that your rate of weight loss does not exceed 1-2 pounds per week. Keep in mind that 1200 calories is the minimum recommended amount for women who are not breastfeeding, according to the University of Rochester Medical Center. A gradual weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week is recommended for new moms who are not nursing. Before beginning a weight loss program, it’s important to get physician approval.
